Bands and roles

A band is the shared workspace at the heart of Tabula. It holds your songs, your folders, your members, and your activity history. You can’t have a song that doesn’t belong to a band — and a band’s contents are private to its members.

Your personal band

The first time you sign in, Tabula asks what to call you and, unless you arrived by invitation, creates a personal band named after you with you as its owner. It’s a real band like any other — you can rename it, add songs, and invite people — it just means you always have somewhere to start, even before anyone invites you to a group.

Roles

Every member of a band has one of four roles. Each is a superset of the one below it:

Role	Can do
Owner	Everything an admin can, plus billing and ownership transfer. There is exactly one owner per band.
Admin	Manage members and invites, change band settings, and edit songs.
Editor	Create and edit song content.
Viewer	Read songs and leave comments. Viewers never change the music.

Owner, admin, and editor can all edit songs; viewers are read-and-comment only. Managing members and band settings is limited to owners and admins. See Inviting members for how to set and change roles, and transfer ownership.

The interface follows your role. A viewer’s song library has no + New song, + New folder, move or trash controls — the band header says you have view-only access, and an empty band tells you that an editor or admin can add the first song. Set lists work the same way: a viewer can open one and download its PDF, but not create, rename, reorder or delete one. Likewise, nobody sees a role dropdown or Remove on the owner’s row: the owner’s role only changes by transferring the band.

Band settings

A band’s sections sit in the bar under its name: Songs, Set lists, Members, Activity, Trash (for owners and admins, who can restore from it) and Settings.

Settings opens on General, where you rename the band. Names are capped at 120 characters; the field counts as you type and won’t save past the limit. The owner also has a Danger zone tab, below.

Belonging to several bands

You can be in as many bands as you like — your main band, a side project, a friend’s band you help out with. Each carries your role in that band independently.

• If you belong to a single band, Tabula takes you straight into it when you sign in.
• If you belong to several, you’ll see Your bands: one row per band, with its logo, your role, how many songs it has and when it was last active. They’re sorted by name; click a column heading to sort by something else, and search to find one by name. + New band makes another. You can switch bands at any time from the breadcrumb at the top of the editor or song library — no need to go back to the start.

Creating another band

From the all-bands view, use + New band, give it a name, and you’re in — as its owner. You can then invite members and start adding songs.

Deleting a band

The band’s owner can delete it from Settings → Danger zone. Everything in it goes: songs, folders, set lists, comments and activity — and the band’s content key with them, so even backups become unreadable. It can’t be undone, which is why Tabula asks you to sign in again first and to type the band’s name to confirm.

A band with other members isn’t deleted out from under them. While anyone else is still in it, the Danger zone points you to Members instead: transfer ownership to one of them, or remove them first. Pending invitations don’t count; they lapse with the band.

If the band you delete was your only one, Tabula makes you a fresh personal band, named after you, so you always have somewhere to start.
